Analysis of TVC of the First stage of Vega Launcher, Solid rocket booster nozzle(P80)
Summary
Performed thermo-structural and modal analysis (using ANSYS WORKBENCH) of the First stage of Vega Launcher Solid rocket booster nozzle(P80).The analysis focuses on the TVC (Thrust vector control) of the nozzle using pair of electro-mechanical actuators placed 90° apart. An innovative low torque flex-seal design has allowed using the electro-mechanical system for effective TVC. At first, the actuator elongation was found using the thermal expansion coefficient of the material and then the structural analysis is performed to estimate the reaction forces in the actuators. Internal pressures were calculated at different stations using isentropic relations. A preliminary modal analysis was also performed, studying the total deformation due to the first 10 modes. This analysis shows interesting results that can be applied to better understand the behaviour of the TVC of VEGA's first stage during its operational life
